Field Day Review 2015
Field Day Review is an annually published academic journal.
Published by Field Day Publishing, the Journal is a venture set up by Seamus Deane and Brian Friel amongst others. In 2015 they changed model slightly, adopting a digital only route, with copies available directly from the publishers, and via Apple.
The format eventually decided upon was an interactive pdf, which allows for embeds of videos, sounds, links (both external and internal to the document). The proportions and grid created closely echo the previous print document but are translated to reflect an ipad, which research revealed with the audience's favoured device. Software used was Adobe's Creative Cloud suite, with beautiful fonts supplied by Rosetta via Fonstand and exljbris via Typekit.
Extra care was needed in taking a previously print-only publication and retaining its intangible qualities - an integrity and sense of authority.
